Leah Boleto (née Gooding) is a leading presenter on the BBC Newsround team and a regular reporter for BBC Breakfast. She has also read news summaries and presented Morning Reports for Radio 5 Live and presented BBC Sport news reports for BBC News at One and the BBC News channel as well as for the Victoria Derbyshire programme on BBC2.
Having worked at Newsround since July 2009, Leah prepares scripts and presents bulletins daily. During this time she has travelled the world, reporting on some of the biggest stories around. Leah was on the front line reporting live from the Belfast riots and was in Athens at the height of the Euro crisis, interviewing young people about their lives and making it relevant to children at home in the UK. In 2015, marking the 70th anniversary of the atomic bombing of the city of Hiroshima, Leah travelled to Japan for a Newsround Special to find out more about what happened on that day in 1945. The programme won an RTS Award in the Best Children's Programme (School Age) category and was also nominated for a Children's BAFTA Award in 2016. More recently she spent a week reporting live from the United States in the run-up to Donald Trump's presidential inauguration.
Leah is well versed in live situations, both in studio and on-location reporting — indeed she presented Newsround live from Wimbledon for BBC2 during Andy Murray's semi-final clash. She was also Newsround's official Olympic reporter with access to all venues, reporting daily from the Aquatics Centre, Velodrome and Olympic Stadium for the duration of the London 2012 Olympic Games and also covered the 2014 FIFA World Cup from Brazil. Leah also reported live from a school in Leicester during the March 2015 solar eclipse for BBC1's Stargazing Live and was part of the BBC's Stargazing team again in December 2015 as a reporter for Blast Off Live: A Stargazing Special to celebrate the launch of Tim Peake's mission to the International Space Station.
Leah has also presented Fierce Earth, taking CBBC viewers on a journey around the world, visiting harsh terrain and breaking down what happens when the world and weather around become extreme. She is also responsible for creating Wild Five, a mini-series for Newsround in which she searched the country for the UK's most endangered animals. Her keen interest in factual wildlife has also led to appearances on BBC2's Autumnwatch series, where she got up close to the European eel.
Other notable TV and radio credits include BBC London News and Radio 1 Newsbeat and she is a well-known voice on several CBBC productions. Away from the studio, Leah is a popular face on the red carpet, having interviewed the likes of Emeli Sandé, Andy Serkis and Martin Freeman.
Leah met her partner, fellow CBBC Newsround presenter Ricky Boleto in 2009. The couple were married in September 2014 and Leah shared all the details of her wedding preparations in an exclusive blog for Hello Magazine online.
